The Floating Head

Throughout my stitching time the part I used to leave until the very last was the head and face.   It was part of the finishing touch that made everything come to life.  Because of the way I work the Heaven and Earth Designs patterns I now stitch the face when I get to it which can leave things looking a little strange.  On Whispers my angel has had a floating head for a while now and it was beginning to get to me a little because I couldn’t hide it.

It wasn’t just because a floating head looks odd but because there was an area of my sewing that begged to be stitched.  Especially after all of that background.  I knew that in the page underneath there would be arms, the beginnings of a dress, hair in fact anything but feathers and branches.  Interesting things.

And that might explain why it felt such a quick page to stitch even with all of the confetti stitches that made up the hair.  The colours in the hair are the same as the colours used in the wings but it felt so different to stitch.  Once it was done she suddenly felt much bigger, more substantial in the picture and I’m more reluctant to put her away.  The floating head has gone but the floating hand has become an issue as well as needing to finish off her arm to get everything in it’s proper place.

I am swapping though, two more pages to do on Computer Catastrophes but that will see me through to the end of a row so the floating hand will have to wait for a little while longer.

Wow Nicola she is truly stunning! Whispers is my favourite of all your Wips and I love it when she is in your rotation. Looking forward to Spangler’s computer catastrophe though another brilliant piece. Beautiful progress.
